St Paul’s has a fine resonant acoustic in which to make music. Additionally, it has fine instruments: an 1865 3 manual pipe organ by Wm Hill & Son, and a Bluthner Concert Grand Piano. The Cathedral is regularly used for concerts and recitals.
Unfortunately, our fine organ is beginning to show its age, and so plans are underway looking into how we may restore this fine instrument which is so integral to the worshipping life of the cathedral community. The organ is currently tuned and maintained by Harrison & Harrison of Durham who have prepared plans for a complete rebuild of the instrument.
