Doors Open Weekend 2018

On SATURDAY 8th September, the Cathedral will be open for Doors Open Day between 10.00 and 18.00 (except between 13.00 & 14.00 when access is limited to those attending our lunchtime concert – see further details below).

On SUNDAY 9th September, the Cathedral will be open between 09.30 and 20.00, with our regular Sunday services taking place at 10.30 and 18.15 – visitors are very welcome to join us for worship, but looking round the building will only be possible outwith the service times (between 10.30 & 11.45 and 18.15 and 19.15).

At present work is being carried out inside the building to install our new LED lighting scheme, therefore there is scaffolding in place in the nave. This has meant we have had to slightly alter our programme for the weekend – our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. However, you’ll still get a chance to see most of our lovely building, including its beautiful stained glass windows and its various nooks and crannies, as well as the bell-tower and Castlehill House.

TOURS will take place on Saturday at 11.00, 12.00 and 15.00 & 16.00 and on Sunday at 13.00. (These are limited to 10 people per tour and are on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.)
Unfortunately, the tours are not suitable to those with mobiliy issues due to the nature of access to various parts of the buildings by internal staircases.

LUNCHTIME CONCERT – there is also the chance to enjoy a lovely concert at 13.00 on SATURDAY given by ‘Triquetta’ – Lisa Lulis: soprano, Barbara Scott: mezzo-soprano and Michael Ellacott: piano.
Tickets available at the door (adults: £5; students: £3; accompanied schoolchildren: free).

SUNDAY SERVICES – come and see the building come alive as the regular cathedral community gather for the Sung Eucharist on Sunday morning at 10.30, or the beauiful reflective service of Choral Evensong at 18.15. The organ is played and the cathedral choir will be singing at both services.

ACCESS – for anyone with mobility issues, access to the cathedral for services and the lunchtime concert is possible by use of a mechanical stair-climber – further details available from a steward upon arrival at the cathedral.

REFRESHMENTS – coffee and tea will be available throughout the day on Saturday (except during the concert performance) and refreshments are served after both services on Sunday.

WELCOME TO STUDENTS – there is also a ‘Welcome Supper’ for any students after Choral Evensong on Sunday… any new and returning students are most welcome to come along for pizza and drinks!
