Music & Liturgy

Billy Muir is the Director of Music at St Paul’s Cathedral. Billy discovered his lifelong passion for music while seated at the piano with his late gran as a child. He pursued music studies at the University of the Highlands and Islands, honing his skills as a versatile musician. With talents in singing, piano, arranging, and directing, Billy has become a respected figure in Dundee’s music scene, contributing to various theatre groups and choirs.  Billy’s deep-seated love for music traces back to his formative years here at the cathedral, where he began as a choral scholar over 15 years ago. It was within these halls that his passion for choral music took root, guiding him towards the role of Director of Music.

Grateful for the opportunities he’s been granted, Billy is dedicated to maintaining and developing the cathedral’s choral scholarship scheme, recognising its pivotal role in nurturing emerging talent and fostering a love for music. Outside of music, he enjoys attending theatre performances and indulging in culinary pursuits like cooking and baking.
