What happens at a Sunday service?

Maybe you haven’t been to church before, or not for a long time. Don’t worry – you are very welcome, and you may find it easier than you think.

Our main service is at 10.30am on Sundays. It’s a rich and beautiful service with music from the choir, candles, and often incense. There are readings from the Bible, prayers, and moments of stillness for reflection. A short sermon connects the readings with life and the world today. Children are always welcome, and activities are available for them.

At the heart of the service is the Eucharist (Holy Communion), when we share bread and wine as Jesus did with his disciples. Everyone is invited to come forward – to receive Communion, to ask for a blessing, or simply to remain seated if you prefer.

When you arrive, you’ll be greeted at the door and given an order of service with everything printed so you can follow along easily. There are no reserved seats – just sit wherever feels comfortable.

After the service we share tea and coffee together, a chance to meet others and enjoy conversation in a relaxed setting.

If you’d like to see a service before you visit, our Sunday Eucharist is streamed live on the Cathedral’s Facebook page.
